Slaughter Houses

While listening to the FFN group present not only was I disturbed but I was extremely disgusted. I had never really given much thought about the procedures of slaughter houses but now that I have been informed I am utterly shocked. I cannot understand how our government can allow such practices to continue on in the fashion that they do. I would have thought that our government would have stepped in to stop the unfair treatment of the slaughter houses employees. Another fact that I am suprised at is that even though such conditions are allowed that the workers continue to work there. I just cannot believe that things like this occur in the U.S.

Argument Paper

While writing my argementative paper I found it very interesting and maybe a little fun researching the possible arguments and creating rebuttals for them. I found out that many people are unsure of genetically modified foods because of their lack of knowledge about it and because of negative propaganda. I knew that genetically modified foods can create faster growing times and better quality of food but I never would have guessed that more vitamins and minerals could be incorporated into the plants. Overall I am enjoying the argument paper because of all the new information that I am learning.

Taste

While reading the chapter on where fries get there flavor from I learned many new things. I was unaware of the flavors that are produced in factories. I had always believed that McDonalds fries tasted the way they did because of the way that they were cooked. To be informed that their flavor is acutally just an additive completely shocked me.

Franchise

I found the presentaion on franchises very interesting. I believed that the success rate of the franchisee's would be much higher than that of starting any business. I was shocked when I heard that their success rate was actually lower than the others. Another fact that I found quite shocking and also disturbing was that the franchisor is able to close down the franchisee's business as they see fit. I learned many new facts, interesting and shocking, about the franchise industry.

Thesis

I found the information that we learned in class about a paper's thesis quite helpful. I had been used to thesis' that would be explaining what the paper was going to be about and putting the headings into order of when they would be spoken about. The thesis type that we were shown in class in my opinion will be much easier and better worded. The new thesis is actually the base of the paper and once you have a working thesis the rest of the paper will fall into place.

Hungry

While reading the chapters throughout the book I find myself "hungry" for more information. Perhaps it is not the information that I am "hungry" for but the content itself, the powerful descriptions that pull us into the stories. I hope that while reading these that I am able to learn how to become so descriptive so that I may be able to "pull" my readers into my stories. I don't want to just tell my stories I want my readers to almost experience them with me.

Class

I liked the in class project where we were supposed to write about something that had personal meaning to us. I found it very easy to continue on and on about my personal object because it means a great deal to me and has many underlying meanings that only I know of. I also found it interesting to listen to the other students objects and what it meant to them.
